Walid Karam

Dr. Walid Karam is a Lebanese computer scientist and telecommunications expert renowned for his contributions in academia and professional communities. Since 1993, he has served as a professor (and department chair in Computer Science) at prominent Lebanese universities, including the University of Balamand and the American University of Technology (AUT) in Jbeil.

He earned his PhD in the field of computer vision and biometrics, authoring influential research on face recognition, pattern recognition, and image processing—amassing over 14 publications and dozens of citations

Dr. Karam is deeply involved in the engineering community: he was elected Chair of the IEEE Computer Society Lebanon Chapter for the 2023–2025 term, after serving as Secretary for the IEEE Lebanon Section from 2019–2022 . He also regularly moderates and speaks at high-profile conferences—such as IEEE Grand Tech Lebanon, where he led panel discussions on cutting-edge topics like cloud, AI, and the metaverse

Combining academic leadership, active research, and professional engagement, Dr. Karam is a key figure in advancing technology education and innovation in Lebanon’s ICT and telecommunications sectors.
